Central Indiana Dance Ensemble Company Member Takes First Place At NSAL Competitionon 14 April 2012
In February, sixteen year old Hannah Sink, a Central Indiana Dance Ensemble senior company member and a student at the Central Indiana Academy of Dance, won first place in the Ballet Category at the 2012 National Society of Arts and Letters, Bloomington Chapter. The competition was held at the Jacobs School of Music, where awards were given in voice, instrumental and ballet. In addition to the cash award, she will perform along with the top two prizewinners in each category on April 15th at 2:00 PM as part of the NSAL 46th Annual Showcase of the Arts at the John Waldron Arts Center auditorium. Hannah will perform the Diana and Acteon variation.
The National Society of Arts and Letters is a not-for-profit organization founded in Washington, D.C. in 1944 to encourage and provide financial assistance to talented young artists at the beginning of their careers. The Bloomington Chapter was founded in 1966. They have awarded more than $500,000 to young artists preparing for professional careers in the arts.
Hannah began her studies at age three with Suzann DeLay. She currently trains with Ms. DeLay at the Central Indiana Academy of Dance in the Pre-Professional division. Hannah placed first in the YAGP contemporary ballet competition and in the top twelve in classical ballet. This past year Hannah was bestowed first place honors at the Casey Rose Memorial Scholarship and first place scholarship award at Regional Dance America Festival in Pittsburgh, PA. Hannah also has the distinction of performing the role of Clara in the Radio City Rockettes Christmas Spectacular at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, TN. For the past two years Hannah has spent her summers at the School of American Ballet in New York City. Her summer studies have also included The Rock for Dance Education and Central Indiana Dance Ensemble summer intensive. This summer she is headed to Houston Ballet Academy on full scholarship. She will also perform the lead role in Central Indiana Dance Ensemble’s production of Coppélia on May 19th at The Tarkington Theatre at The Center for the Performing Arts in Carmel.
